The CPN-UML has announced a major show of strength on Asoj 25 (October 11). The party’s sister organization, the National Youth Association, Nepal, will organize a large motorbike rally starting from Tinkune, Kathmandu.
During a program held in Gundu, Bhaktapur, on Thursday, UML Politburo member Mahesh Basnet warned the government not to underestimate the party’s power. He cautioned that “if anyone dares to touch party chairman KP Sharma Oli, the entire country will be on fire.”
Basnet declared, “The CPN-UML, Chairman Oli, and Mahesh Basnet never back down. The same Youth Force that once fought against the Rana, Panchayat, and monarchy regimes will rise again. On the 25th, the National Youth Association, Nepal, will take out a motorbike rally from Tinkune at 1 PM to demonstrate the strength of UML and Nepali youth.”
Basnet, a former chairman of the Youth Association, also advised Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal not to be swayed by what he called “empty-headed GenZ agitators.” He said UML was ready to cooperate in anti-corruption investigations but claimed that the “biggest corrupt official” was current Energy Minister Kulman Ghising.
“We are ready to cooperate; investigate us too,” he said, “but start with Nepal’s number one corrupt figure—Kulman Ghising.”
Basnet also questioned the source of Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal’s wealth, demanding an inquiry into it. Furthermore, he alleged that Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah and GenZ leader Sudhan Gurung were involved in the incident of Bhadra 24 (September 9) and called for investigations to begin with them.
