Tension erupted in Gaur Municipality–6, Sapgada Tole of Rautahat District after a dispute broke out between members of two communities during a wedding procession, prompting the district administration to impose a curfew.
The incident began on Thursday night when a Hindu wedding procession passed near a mosque while playing music. Members of the Muslim community objected, stating that music should not be played during prayer time (Namaz), which led to a confrontation. The dispute escalated into a clash, during which members of the DJ group were reportedly assaulted.
From Friday morning, stone-pelting broke out between the two communities, further worsening the situation. Police fired dozens of rounds of tear gas to bring the situation under control. Six civilians were injured in the clashes, along with two police personnel.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Bishnu Pradeep Basyal, protesters vandalized one vehicle bearing an Indian number plate and 12 motorcycles. To restore order, more than 250 security personnel—including Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and the Nepali Army—have been deployed.
Although a six-point agreement was reached on Friday evening under the leadership of Chief District Officer Dinesh Sagar Bhusal following discussions with community leaders, clashes resumed on Saturday morning. The administration stated that efforts are ongoing to fully control the situation and has urged both sides to maintain peace.
