The government has extended the deadline of the taskforce formed to recommend facilities for nurses equivalent to government service by one month.
According to Health Ministry spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, the extension was made as per the agreement between the government and the protesting nurses’ group. The taskforce will now submit its report by Mangsir 15 (November 30).
Dr. Budhathoki said, “The taskforce is working as per the agreement to ensure government-level facilities for nurses. Once the report is submitted, the new benefits will be implemented.”
The government had formed a 14-member taskforce led by Health Ministry Additional Secretary Dr. Shree Krishna Shrestha to classify hospitals and recommend appropriate facilities for nurses. Dr. Shrestha said that the team is preparing a report incorporating both short-term and long-term measures.
“The minister has assured that if necessary, a new bill will be introduced to finalize nurses’ service benefits,” Dr. Shrestha added.
As per the agreement, large hospitals and private medical colleges will provide salaries equivalent to the fifth level of government service starting from Kartik (mid-October), while other private and community hospitals will provide 80% of fifth-level benefits.
