Thousands of candidates who contested under the first-past-the-post system in the House of Representatives election held on Falgun 21 have lost their election deposits.
According to the Election Commission Nepal, a total of 2,890 candidates failed to retain their deposits in this election.
The commission stated that candidates who wish to participate in the election are required by law to submit a certain amount as a security deposit.
Under election law, a candidate can reclaim the deposit only if they secure more than 10 percent of the total valid votes cast in their constituency.
If a candidate receives less than 10 percent of the valid votes, the deposit amount is forfeited to the state treasury, the commission said.
