Deputy Speaker Indira Rana has emphasized the need for a shared commitment to uphold the supremacy of Parliament and to establish a system where governance is conducted swiftly through elected representatives, as envisioned by the Constitution.
Extending best wishes to all on the occasion of Federal Parliament Service Day 2082, she stated that in a changing era, it is essential for parliamentary services to become stronger, more efficient, and result-oriented. She noted that the Parliament Service has been working across all areas—from preparing agendas and supporting the law-making process to recording debates and decisions, managing archives, ensuring data availability, and disseminating information—and stressed that its effectiveness must be further enhanced in the current context.
Deputy Speaker Rana highlighted the need to prioritize the expansion of information technology–friendly systems, digital archive management, e-Parliament systems, faster information flow, effective analysis and research required for policy decisions, capacity building of staff, attracting skilled human resources, and promoting international-level learning and exchange.
Stating that the Federal Parliament is the backbone of the federal democratic governance system and the supreme institution of people’s representatives that oversees government actions, she said the need to make Parliament’s role more effective and outcome-oriented has become even clearer.
In her message, she said that providing the necessary administrative, technical, and managerial support for the effective functioning of Parliament is a key responsibility of the Parliament Service. She added that parliamentary office-bearers, members, and staff must continuously uphold the dignity, values, and sense of duty of parliamentary service in their performance.
Deputy Speaker Rana expressed confidence that the day would reaffirm everyone’s commitment to the proud role of parliamentary service and help build, in the near future, a transparent Parliament that meets public expectations, ensures parliamentary supremacy, and operates governance through elected representatives.
