On the third Monday of the holy month of Shrawan, thousands of devotees have gathered at Pashupatinath Temple and Shiva shrines across the country since early morning. Recognizing the religious significance of the day, the Pashupati Area Development Trust opened all four gates of the Pashupatinath Temple from 3 AM to facilitate the large number of devotees.
Currently, long queues of worshippers can still be seen in the Pashupati area as people wait for their turn to offer prayers and perform rituals. Shrawan and Mondays are considered especially sacred to Lord Shiva, and worshipping him on these days is a tradition that dates back to Vedic times.
