Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Harka Sampang has announced that he will contest the upcoming House of Representatives election from Sunsari constituency No. 1. Making the announcement through a Facebook post on Wednesday, Sampang wrote, “I will contest the House of Representatives election from Sunsari Constituency No. 1! Jai Mato! Jai Desh!” He has been actively involved in politics after forming the Shram Sanskriti Party and is currently expanding the party’s organization by traveling to different parts of the country. In the 2079 BS election, Ashok Rai of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal was elected from Sunsari-1. Rai has since split JSP Nepal and formed a new party. In that election, Rai secured 17,059 votes, while Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate Goma Tamang came second with 16,606 votes. CPN (Maoist Centre) candidate Muksamhang Subba finished third with 13,087 votes.
