The main road connecting Lamjung and Tanahun, the Dumre–Besisahar highway, has been completely closed for three days starting today. The closure affects the landslide-prone area of Besisahar Municipality–1, Udipur, where paving work is being carried out. The Lamjung District Administration Office announced that the road will remain closed from 11:00 AM today until 6:00 PM on Magh 14.
According to Assistant Chief District Officer Thammasingh Gautam, the closure was requested by the Dumre–Besisahar–Chame Road Office to reinforce the section damaged by a landslide a few years ago.
Despite the closure, an alternative diversion route has been arranged through the Nepali Army’s Chandiprasad Battalion, Udipur Barracks area, to facilitate travelers. This highway is a key route for access to Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, and the Himalayan district of Manang.
The landslide during the 2078 B.S. monsoon had washed away this section of the road. With a federal government budget of NPR 11.19 crore, work is underway to control the landslide and pave 400 meters of road.
