The Election Commission has sought a second clarification from National Independent Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party–RSP) candidate for Jhapa-5, Balendra Shah (Balen). The Commission said it asked for clarification again after receiving audio-visual material in which plainclothes police personnel are seen and heard asking for votes in his favor.
According to the Commission, clarification was sought regarding the circumstances under which plainclothes police personnel were deployed with Shah’s wife during his election campaign. The Commission has asked Shah to submit his explanation within three days.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has also sought clarification from nine more individuals for allegedly violating the election code of conduct. By Saturday, the Commission had sought 21 clarifications, and an additional nine were sought on Sunday and Monday.
Assistant Spokesperson of the Election Commission, Kul Bahadur Jaisi, said that a complaint was received against RSP candidate Hemraj Thapa in Bajura. The complaint alleges that Thapa used insulting and threatening language at the Chief Minister’s Office and also posted on social media, targeting Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya by linking him to the Martadi–Kolti road construction project contracted to PS Baniya JV. Based on the complaint, the Commission sought clarification from Thapa.
