The Election Commission has fixed the election campaign period for the House of Representatives election from Falgun 4 to Falgun 18.
According to Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari, political parties and candidates have been urged to carry out their campaign activities within the designated period while strictly adhering to the election code of conduct.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Commission on Tuesday, Bhandari clarified misconceptions that candidates are not allowed to campaign after filing their nominations. He stated that after receiving election symbols, candidates are permitted to meet voters through door-to-door campaigns to gather feedback and suggestions.
However, he added that large public rallies, assemblies, workshops, seminars, and similar activities are not allowed to be conducted on a party basis. “The election code of conduct is already in force. If complaints regarding violations of the code are received, the Commission has the authority to investigate and take necessary decisions,” he said.
Bhandari also clarified that the positions of provincial assembly members and local level representatives who have become candidates for the House of Representatives will be deemed vacant. He informed that elections for such vacant positions would be held after Falgun 21.
The Election Commission has stated that the responsible role of all stakeholders is essential to ensure a free, fair, and dignified election.
