With the aim of making the upcoming House of Representatives election on Falgun 21 more organized and effective, the Election Commission has announced a special voter education campaign.
The nationwide campaign will run from Falgun 3 to Falgun 17 to simplify the voting process and reduce the percentage of invalid votes. As part of the program, one voter education volunteer will be mobilized in each of the 6,743 wards across all 753 local levels throughout the country.
According to Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, volunteers will visit households and communities to inform voters about the importance of the election and the correct voting procedures using sample ballot papers.
The Commission has assigned previously designated contact persons in all local levels to monitor the implementation of the program. It believes that voter education will play a significant role in increasing public participation in the election and minimizing the number of invalid votes.
To ensure the success of this ambitious initiative, the Commission has urged all seven provincial governments, local levels, political parties participating in the election, candidates, and the media to extend their full cooperation.
The Commission expects the campaign to be highly effective in raising awareness among citizens about the importance of their voting rights and teaching them the correct voting method. The initiative is also aimed at addressing the problem of a large number of votes being invalidated due to improper ballot marking.
