The extended deadline provided by the Election Commission for updating and registering voter lists ahead of the upcoming House of Representatives election expired at midnight.
Earlier, voter registration had been open until Kartik 30, but due to high demand from new applicants and requests from concerned stakeholders, the Commission extended the deadline until Mangsir 5.
According to the Commission, around 700,000 new voters have been added during this period. The commission stated that the final verified data compiled after midnight will be made public soon. The increase in new registrations has been encouraging, said Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.
The number of online registrations also increased significantly after the Commission allowed voters to register using details from the national identity card.
