The mother and sister of Bipin Joshi, the Nepali student abducted by Hamas, met Israeli President Isaac Herzog today in Jerusalem as part of their efforts to secure his release.
According to the Nepali Embassy in Tel Aviv, Bipin’s mother Padma Joshi and sister Pushpa Joshi were accompanied by Nepali Ambassador Dhan Prasad Poudel during the courtesy meeting held at the presidential residence. They appealed to President Herzog to initiate humanitarian efforts for Bipin’s immediate release, emphasizing that he is an innocent student.
President Herzog acknowledged that Bipin Joshi’s abduction during Hamas’s surprise attack on October 7, 2023, is well known to Israel. He assured the family that Bipin is regarded “like an Israeli citizen” and that efforts for his release are ongoing. He also expressed the view that more proactive engagement by the Government of Nepal with concerned Arab countries could yield positive results.
In addition, Bipin’s mother and sister also met Amir Ohana, Speaker of the Israeli Parliament (Knesset). They requested his support in securing Bipin’s freedom. Speaker Ohana stated that the search for Bipin and other hostages is continuing, noting that the friendship between Nepal and Israel has grown stronger through this issue. He recalled raising Bipin’s case during a recent meeting with his Nepali counterpart in Geneva, highlighting that both governments are making joint efforts.
A statement from the Nepali Embassy confirmed that the Israeli government remains actively engaged in securing Bipin’s release, while the Government of Nepal is also pursuing the matter at the highest levels.
