The Federal Parliament Secretariat has instructed newly elected members of the House of Representatives to submit their asset details by Jestha 10.
According to the secretariat, MPs must mandatorily submit updated asset details, including properties held in their own and their family members’ names, up to the fiscal year 2081/82 BS.
Spokesperson Ekaram Giri stated that the law requires public office holders to submit their asset details within 60 days of assuming office. As the members took their oath on Chaitra 12, the timeline has been calculated from that date.
MPs are required to submit the asset details in sealed envelopes confidentially to the secretariat. The secretariat clarified that the information will remain strictly confidential and will not be made public except by court order.
This provision has been enforced in line with the Corruption Prevention Act 2059 and the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Act 2048. The secretariat also noted that a similar directive has already been issued to members of the National Assembly.
