Newly appointed Finance Minister Rameshwar Khanal assumed office today. Soon after taking the oath of office at Shital Niwas, he reached Singha Durbar to formally take charge of the ministry.
His first decision as Finance Minister was to cancel fragmented and non-priority projects that lacked proper preparation. He stated such projects would not be implemented.
“Our priority now is to fulfill the demands of the youth and to hold elections. Therefore, this decision has been made to reduce unnecessary expenses,” Khanal said.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki appointed Khanal along with two other ministers earlier today. They were sworn in at a special ceremony held at the President’s Office, Shital Niwas.
In addition to Finance, Khanal has also been assigned the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure, Transport, and Urban Development.
