The 6,958-meter-high Numbur Himal, located in Solududhkunda Municipality-1 of Solukhumbu district, has been successfully climbed for the first time in history.
A three-member international expedition team, organized through Seven Summit Treks, reached the summit after 15 hours of continuous climbing, marking a historic achievement. According to Karma Chhiring Sherpa, an employee of Seven Summit Treks, the climbers who successfully summited Numbur Himal are Adam from Poland, Felix from Germany, and Harv from Italy.
The mountain, situated above the famous religious lake Dudh Kunda, was opened for climbing only recently by the Department of Tourism following the initiative of Solududhkunda Municipality. With this ascent, the names of the three climbers have now been recorded in history as the first to set foot on the summit of Numbur Himal.
After their successful ascent, the climbers were welcomed by Ward Chairperson Chongba Sherpa along with local tourism entrepreneurs. Mayor of Solududhkunda Municipality, Nwang Nima (Nanggel Jangbu) Sherpa, said that the successful ascent of Numbur Himal has opened a new door for tourism development in the region.
Earlier attempts to climb the mountain had been unsuccessful. A Japanese expedition team tried to summit Numbur Himal in 1963 but failed. Similarly, a French team attempted the climb in 1981 but was also unsuccessful. Of the two teams that attempted the ascent this season, one has finally succeeded in making history.
