Police have arrested five detainees who had escaped from the Banepa Area Police Office during incidents of arson, vandalism, and looting amid the Gen-Z movement. The District Police Office, Kavrepalanchok, confirmed the arrests, noting that the detainees were among 12 individuals who had escaped custody during the September 9 (Bhadra 24) attack on the police office.
According to District Police Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rabin Bishta, the arrested individuals include:
- Saroj Pode (28) of Panauti Municipality–4, charged with indecent behavior, arrested from Panauti–7
- Uttam Bahadur Timalsina (33) of Panauti–9, charged with the same offense, arrested from Panauti–7
- Nar Bahadur Lungeli (46) of Roshi Rural Municipality–9, arrested from Roshi–9
- Prabin Magar (23) of Jantedhunga Rural Municipality–6, Khotang, charged with rape, arrested from his home
- Bhim Bahadur Sunar (32) of Roshi–1, charged with vehicular assault, arrested from Banepa–8
They were apprehended on Monday and sent back to custody for further investigation.
Earlier, Kavrepalanchok police had also arrested seven individuals involved in arson, vandalism, and looting of public and private property during the Gen-Z movement. According to District Police Chief Superintendent of Police (SP) Komal Shah, investigations are ongoing based on complaints filed against those responsible for damaging six private structures.
In total, the police have so far detained 11 individuals directly linked to the arson, vandalism, and looting at the Banepa Area Police Office. The Gen-Z protests caused significant damage to at least 18 public and private properties in Kavrepalanchok district.
Police have also recaptured 53 inmates who had escaped from various prisons during the movement, and they have since been returned to the Dhulikhel District Prison through the District Police Office.
