Former Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, who has ended unity talks with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), is set to become the chairperson of the Ujyalo Nepal Party.
Sources say a party meeting held on Saturday afternoon is preparing to formally appoint Ghising as party chair. According to RSP sources, consensus could not be reached after Ghising sought half of the prime ministerial term, key party positions such as vice-chairperson and general secretary, and the inclusion of communism in the party’s ideological framework.
After breaking away from RSP, Ghising has begun preparations to contest the upcoming House of Representatives election as the chairperson of the Ujyalo Nepal Party. The party is registered with the Election Commission under the name of Anup Upadhyay as chair.
Following his appointment by the Ujyalo Nepal Party’s central committee, Ghising is expected to hold a press conference in his capacity as party chair. He had earlier resigned from his ministerial post after facing criticism for remaining in government while actively engaging in party politics.
