The Nepali Communist Party has expelled former Karnali Province Chief Minister Rajkumar Sharma from the party, stripping him even of his ordinary membership. Following the disciplinary action, the process to revoke his position as a member of the Karnali Provincial Assembly has also been initiated.
According to Krishna Bahadur GC, Chief Whip of the party’s Karnali Provincial Assembly parliamentary party, a letter regarding the action taken against Sharma was sent to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat on Wednesday.
Sharma was elected from Rukum West in the 2022 elections and also serves as the Karnali Province in-charge of the Progressive Democratic Party led by Janardan Sharma.
Chief Whip GC stated that Sharma was found to have deliberately acted against the party’s policies, principles, and code of conduct. As a result, the party decided to remove him from all responsibilities in accordance with the party statute and the Parliamentary Party Statute 2082.
Under the Political Parties Act, 2017, a person expelled from party membership cannot remain a member of the Provincial Assembly. Accordingly, the Secretariat has been formally notified to relieve him of his position.
Provincial Assembly Secretary Jeevaraj Budhathoki confirmed that the letter regarding the disciplinary action has been registered and that necessary legal procedures are underway.
The development has created fresh political ripples in Karnali Province.
