Former Member of Parliament Suhang Nembang has called on the government to declare Ilam district a crisis-hit area and to resume regular flights at Phalgunanda Sukilumba Airport.
Highlighting the severe human and material losses caused by continuous rainfall, Nembang stated that landslides, road blockages, and power outages have completely disrupted daily life in Ilam. He said that rescue and relief operations have faced serious challenges due to road destruction and loss of communication links.
Citing the current situation and the recommendation of the District Disaster Management Committee, Nembang urged the government to immediately declare Ilam as a crisis-affected area.
He further stressed the need for regular air services from Phalgunanda Sukilumba Airport, noting that geographical difficulties and road blockages between the district headquarters and the capital have severely hindered the transportation of relief materials, medicines, and communication services.
“Due to continuous rainfall, Ilam has suffered heavy loss of life and property, with roads blocked and power supply disrupted. Given the destruction and disconnection caused by landslides, I strongly urge the government to declare Ilam a ‘crisis-hit area’ immediately,” Nembang said.
“Furthermore, considering the geographical challenges and ongoing road blockages, I call on the concerned authorities to resume regular flights from Phalgunanda Sukilumba Airport to ensure the supply of essential goods, medicines, and communication services,” he added.
