Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari was warmly welcomed at Simara Airport, Bara, on Saturday. She arrived from Kathmandu to attend the “Grand Women’s Conference 2082” organized by the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where she is the chief guest.
Leaders of the CPN-UML greeted her with a 51-kg garland, including Standing Committee member Mukunda Neupane, Politburo member Purushottam Paudel, central members Kedar Neupane and Arvind Singh, Province Secretary Manoj Paudel, Secretariat member Jaya Prakash Tharu, and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Politburo member and former minister Purushottam Paudel praised Bhandari as the “pride of the republic”, highlighting her role during her presidency and her leadership within UML.
Although the party leadership had directed leaders not to attend formally, many UML leaders and cadres still reached Simara to welcome her.
