Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the party must hold its General Convention before the upcoming elections.
Speaking to the media after the Central Working Committee meeting held at the party’s Sanepa office on Saturday, Thapa said the party should enter the elections with new policies and new leadership. For that reason, he stressed that holding the General Convention before the elections is mandatory.
He stated that there is not enough time to conduct a regular General Convention before the elections, making a Special General Convention the only viable option.
Thapa further said that the party cannot avoid either conducting the periodic convention by the end of Poush or holding the Special General Convention by the end of Mangsir. He clarified that the meeting scheduled for Mangsir 11 will make a decision on one of these two options.
He also mentioned that efforts are being made to reach a consensus on the matter of the General Convention.
