The Gandaki provincial government has appointed new chairpersons for the management committees of 11 hospitals under its jurisdiction. The decision was taken during a provincial cabinet meeting on Tuesday, which also restructured all 11 hospital committees with new leadership.
According to government spokesperson Dr. Takaraj Gurung, the following appointments have been made:
- Lekhnath General and Referral Hospital: Rishiraj Jamarkattel
- Damauli Hospital: Kamalamohan Wagle
- Burtibang Hospital (Baglung): Kamal Bhusal
- Parbat Hospital: Yam Bahadur Nepali
- Dhaulagiri Provincial Hospital (Baglung): Shriprasad Sharma
- Beni Hospital: Dekbahadur Baniya
- Madhyabindu Hospital (Nawalpur): Balkrishna Ghimire
- Mustang Hospital: Tenzing Thakali
- Lamjung Hospital: Vijay Gurung
- Syangja Hospital: Dilkumar Bhujel
- Manang Hospital: Arvin Gurung
Political Party Allocation
This time, the chairperson appointments were divided between two political parties. The Nepali Congress received leadership for Madhyabindu (Nawalpur), Lamjung, Tanahun, Parbat, Mustang, and Burtibang (Baglung) hospitals, while the CPN-UML got Dhaulagiri, Myagdi, Manang, Syangja, and Lekhnath General and Referral Hospital.
Committee Structure and Appointment Criteria
Currently, Gandaki has 16 provincial hospitals, including 14 general and 2 Ayurvedic hospitals. According to the new formation order, chairpersons of 100-bed hospitals must be graduates and permanent residents of the respective district.
The nine-member committee will include representatives from local governments, a female member, two members nominated by the ministry, representatives from the Administration and Auditor General’s Office, permanent specialist doctors of the hospital, the nursing chief, and the medical superintendent (as member-secretary).
For 50-bed hospitals, chairpersons will also be graduates and permanent residents of the district, with two additional members including a woman holding a proficiency certificate. For 25-bed hospitals, the provincial government will nominate a chairperson from among the permanent residents of the respective district.
