Gen Z activists in Baglung organized a shutdown on Tuesday, bringing markets and transportation to a standstill. Shops remained closed, and vehicles did not operate.
The shutdown is part of the ongoing anti-corruption movement that began on Monday, during which several young protesters lost their lives. Gen Z stated that the action was called in response to government repression and shootings against peaceful demonstrators.
On Monday evening, youth organized a protest assembly and urged citizens to keep markets, shops, and transport closed. They warned that the movement will intensify until corruption ends and called for public support. A protest gathering is scheduled at Loktantrik Chowk at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Youth were seen mobilizing on the streets from early morning, while police presence in the market area has been increased.
In response, Baglung Municipality, Kathekholā Rural Municipality, and Badigad Rural Municipality have declared holidays in schools. Baglung Municipality and Badigad Rural Municipality announced holidays for Tuesday and Wednesday, while Kathekholā Rural Municipality declared a holiday only for Tuesday.
