A peaceful protest by the Gen Z generation has started at Maitighar, Kathmandu, opposing the government’s social media shutdown and widespread corruption.
Some demonstrators arrived in college uniforms, while others raised political slogans against corruption, mismanagement, and the social media ban. Protesters carrying national flags held placards targeting certain leaders and ministers, with slogans such as: “Dissatisfaction is at its peak, leaders’ pockets are full,” “Gen Z shouts, mocking the corrupt,” “Where is the tax money going?” “Independent voice is our right,” and “Stop Corruption.”
To facilitate the protesters, Kathmandu Metropolitan City arranged free mobile toilets at the site. Security personnel have been deployed in large numbers at key locations, including Lainchaur, Durbar Marg, Tripureshwar, Ghantaghar, Bagbazaar, and New Baneshwor. Plainclothes officers are also on alert to prevent infiltration, vandalism, or unrest, according to Kathmandu District Police spokesperson SP Apil Raj Bohara.
