Kathmandu, September 8 —
Gen Z youths are set to stage a peaceful protest in the capital today against rampant corruption, widespread irregularities, and the government’s recent move to ban unregistered social media platforms in Nepal.
According to the organizers, the demonstration will begin at 11 AM at Maitighar Mandala and proceed towards Everest Hotel in New Baneshwor.
The protest comes after the government deactivated unregistered social media platforms, including Facebook, sparking outrage among young people. The movement, under the banner of “Nepalese Students for Justice,” is being led by those born between 1997 and 2012, with participants up to the age of 28.
Issuing a statement, coordinators Saval Gautam and Purushottam Yadav said the protest will remain peaceful. “We stand firm for accountability, transparency, and reforms. Our mission is clear: to hold the corrupt accountable, ensure transparency in governance, and free the administrative system from political interference so that justice, peace, and development become possible,” the statement read.
The organizers clarified that no political party or leader will lead the movement. Only Gen Z youths and students will take part. Participants have been urged to attend in school uniforms with ID cards to symbolize vigilance against corruption and disorder in the country.
Various organizations and individuals have also expressed solidarity with the protest.
