The GenZ Movement Alliance has demanded the voluntary resignation of the Chief Commissioner and all Commissioners of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). Members of the alliance formally submitted a written request to the government and the CIAA urging this step.
The letter, signed by GenZ leaders including Samana Lawati, Rizan Ranamagar, Anusha Khanal, Aakriti Ghimire, Ojaswi Bhattarai, Bishesh Shah, Hem Chaudhary, Amit Khanal, and Abhas Sapkota, states that the demand was made to end corruption and impunity in the country.
The alliance emphasized the need for impartial, independent, and capable leadership within the CIAA, stating that a written appeal has also been handed over to Prime Minister Sushila Karki and all ministers.
According to the constitution, CIAA officials can be removed only through impeachment proceedings. However, with the absence of a House of Representatives (Parliament) at present, voluntary resignation remains the only viable option. Therefore, GenZ Alliance has intensified pressure on the officials to resign on moral grounds, arguing that those unable to contribute to the fight against corruption should step down.
Other demands raised by the GenZ Alliance include the need to investigate CIAA officials and members themselves when necessary, to initiate a national campaign for the purification of public property, and to form a separate youth task force under the alliance to assist in the effort.
Furthermore, the alliance has called for amendments to existing laws to address policy-level corruption and recommended drafting necessary constitutional amendments to support this cause.
