GenZ movement representatives have strongly condemned what they called state suppression, accusing the government formed after the GenZ uprising of using force against peaceful demonstrators.
They held a press conference on Saturday afternoon demanding the release of protesters who were arrested during a peaceful demonstration at Maitighar Mandala earlier in the day.
Speaking at the conference, GenZ representative Manjana Rai said it was oppressive and undemocratic for the government to arrest people who had gathered peacefully.
“Now we will be forced to take new steps. We will not back down — this is our warning. Until our detained friends are released, we will be compelled to escalate our movement,” she said.
Rai also expressed dissatisfaction that the government, which itself rose to power due to the GenZ movement, has failed to address the demands of the uprising.
Similarly, Sagar Tamang, a GenZ representative from Bhojpur, accused the government of attempting to halt their “Unification Campaign”.
“They won’t even let us unite? What kind of government is this? Our demands must be addressed immediately. If the government doesn’t listen, we will take even stronger actions,” Tamang warned.
He said it was unfortunate that a government formed through the GenZ movement was now suppressing the very youths who fought for change. According to him, preparations are underway to intensify their protests in the coming days.
The GenZ representatives called for:
- Immediate release of those arrested
- Urgent fulfillment of their demands
- Nationwide unity against what they termed the government’s repressive policies
They urged all supporters to stay united and prepare for “the next step” of their movement.
