Diwas Shrestha of Gorkha has been confirmed dead in an Iranian attack in the United Arab Emirates. The deceased, who was working as a security guard, was identified by the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi and the Non-Resident Nepali Association UAE chapter.
Issuing a press statement on Monday, the Embassy of Nepal, Abu Dhabi said that Shrestha died while attempting to neutralize a drone at Zayed International Airport. He was employed by a Middle East-based company.
According to the embassy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the death of the 29-year-old Shrestha in the incident.
The embassy stated that necessary arrangements are being made to repatriate his body to Nepal. It has also urged all Nepalis residing in the UAE to remain calm and stay in safe locations.
The embassy further requested Nepali nationals to strictly follow all security guidelines issued by the UAE government.
The NRNA has expressed readiness to assist the embassy in facilitating the repatriation of Shrestha’s body and completing all necessary procedures.
