Interim Minister for Health and Population Dr. Sudha Sharma Gautam has said that the government is promoting traditional medical systems as an important component and program. Addressing a program organized on the occasion of World Meditation Day, she stated that although there have been complaints that no ministry has taken leadership on traditional medicine, the Ministry of Health and Population has been leading the efforts.
She emphasized that an appropriate budget has been allocated for Ayurveda and traditional medical practices. Dr. Gautam noted that programs related to Ayurveda have been incorporated into national policies as well as the Health Ministry’s health policy, five-year strategies, and action plans.
Minister Gautam said that Ayurveda, yoga, meditation, and traditional practices such as those of dhami and jhankri fall under traditional medical systems. She added that the government is moving forward with traditional medicine as a significant national program.
