The government and the agitating nurses have reached an agreement following a discussion held at the Ministry of Health and Population on Saturday. Representatives from both the ministry and the nursing sector agreed on several key points to address the ongoing demands.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, the nurses have agreed to withdraw their protest programs starting Sunday, after the government committed to implementing the agreed-upon measures.
Dr. Budhathoki stated, “Private medical colleges and large private hospitals have agreed to fully provide the government’s fifth-level minimum salary of NPR 34,730 starting from the month of Kartik. Likewise, other private hospitals will provide at least 80 percent of that salary for now, and within a month, salary parity with government standards will be achieved after the classification of hospitals.”
He added that a task force formed to study and recommend necessary actions will submit its report within a month, after which all hospitals will be required to implement the full government-standard salary structure.
Earlier, the government had formed a 14-member committee to address the nurses’ demands. Saturday’s meeting was attended by Minister for Health Dr. Sudha Sharma Gautam, along with senior officials, including the ministry’s secretary, Dr. Bika.
