The Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF) have received government approval to purchase 281 new vehicles in preparation for the upcoming general election scheduled for Falgun 21.
The Ministry of Finance granted the procurement approval after several police vehicles were set on fire during the Gen-Z movement protests on Bhadra 23 and 24.
According to the ministry, the Nepal Police has been authorized to purchase 175 pickup trucks and 6 prisoner transport vans, with necessary budget allocations already approved.
Similarly, the Armed Police Force has been permitted to procure 70 pickup vehicles, 20 riot-control vehicles, 2 ambulances, 3 disaster rescue vans, and 5 12×12 heavy trucks.
The Nepal Police has already called for tenders on Kartik 21 to acquire 100 petrol pickup vehicles and 6 prisoner vans.
As per police records, the Gen-Z movement led to the destruction of 36 trucks and buses, along with 127 jeeps, cars, and vans belonging to security forces.
