After Gen Z protesters set fire to the main administrative complex at Singha Durbar on Tuesday, most of the physical infrastructure was damaged. However, the digital records of government bodies housed inside were largely unaffected, according to Manish Bhattarai, head of the Integrated Data Management Center (IDMC).
Bhattarai explained that IDMC’s disaster recovery (DR) office in Hetauda, established to safeguard government data, remains fully secure. He dismissed rumors that the DR office in Hetauda had been torched and that all government data had collapsed, calling them baseless.
He added that while almost all government bodies and offices under IDMC have their data secured, some institutions that operate their own data centers may have been affected by Tuesday’s fire. He also confirmed that some Supreme Court data is safely backed up at the DR office in Hetauda.
