The government has decided to declare Suresh Rajak, who died in the Tikathali (Tinkune) incident, as a martyr. On Monday, the Cabinet meeting made the decision, which was announced by government spokesperson and Minister for Communication, Information and Technology, Jagadish Kharel.
According to him, the government approved the Financial Procedures and Fiscal Accountability (Second Amendment) Regulations 2082, endorsed the candidacy of Dr. Govinda Prasad Sharma for the post of the ninth Secretary-General of the Colombo Plan, and made a total of 18 decisions.
Key Decisions Made by the Cabinet
- Approve the nomination of Dr. Govinda Prasad Sharma, Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, for the post of the Ninth Secretary-General of the Colombo Plan.
- Terminate the agreement between Nepal and Mauritius on the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion.
- Approve the establishment of the Irrigation Management Company Limited under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation.
- Transfer four joint secretaries from the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.
- Fix the minimum purchase price of sugarcane at Rs. 620 per quintal for fiscal year 2082/83 and provide a subsidy of Rs. 70 per quintal to sugarcane farmers.
- Approve the participation of Secretary Dr. Deepak Kumar Khanal in the agriculture-related program to be held in Thimphu, Bhutan on 29 Mangsir and 1 Poush 2082.
- Form an investigation commission chaired by Deepak Subedi with Sharad Adhikari and Yogendra Nath Karmaacharya as members to implement Supreme Court directives related to the transport sector.
- Declare journalist Suresh Rajak, who died in a fire during the Tinkune protest on Chaitra 15, 2081, as a martyr on behalf of the state.
- Approve the procedure for providing relief and assistance to persons injured or disabled during the Gen-Z protest on 23–24 Bhadra 2082.
- Give prior approval to conduct an organizational and management survey of the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation and its subordinate bodies.
- Provide a cash prize of Rs. 25 lakh to former marathon runner and Olympian Jit Bahadur K.C., who won Nepal’s first international medal (bronze) at the 1973 Asian Athletics Championship.
- Transfer three Major Generals of the Nepal Army, extend the tenure of one Brigadier General, and promote one Brigadier General to Major General.
- Approve organizational structure and positions for the Office of the Auditor General and its subordinate agencies.
- Approve prior permission to conduct an organizational and management survey of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and its subordinate bodies.
- Designate the Mehelkuna–Khataing–Ghumkhahare Triangular Suspension Bridge Project in Surkhet as a National Priority Project.
- Approve the list of 94,527 poor families from ten districts: Ilam, Kaski, Chitwan, Jhapa, Tehrathum, Nawalparasi (East), Nawalparasi (West), Parbat, Morang, and Sunsari.
- Approve the Financial Procedures and Fiscal Accountability (Second Amendment) Regulations 2082.
- Promote Joint Secretary Rajendra Kumar Paudel to the post of Secretary under the Nepal Administrative Service and appoint him as Chief Secretary of Koshi Province.
