Kathmandu — The official order authorizing the arrest of former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has been made public.
The directive was issued after a Cabinet meeting held on Friday. The Ministry of Home Affairs Nepal forwarded the decision to the Nepal Police Headquarters, which then instructed district authorities to carry out the arrests.
According to the letter, police acted after receiving a two-point directive to immediately implement the report submitted by the investigation commission formed to probe the incidents that occurred during the Bhadra 23–24 demonstrations.
The decision states: “To immediately implement the report submitted to the Government of Nepal by the commission formed to investigate the incidents that occurred during the demonstrations of Bhadra 23 and 24, 2082, the following actions shall be taken.”
The ministry sent the Cabinet decision along with the commission’s report under the authority of Home Minister Sudan Gurung.
In the letter addressed to the police headquarters, the ministry stated that the report was being forwarded to initiate legal proceedings against Oli and Lekhak in accordance with the Cabinet’s decision and the commission’s recommendations.
