The Government of Nepal has decided to increase the ration scale and daily allowance for Nepal Police personnel starting from Falgun 1. Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal said the decision was taken by a Cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar. Around 80,000 police personnel are expected to benefit from the move.
At present, police personnel in Kathmandu receive NPR 201.25 per day as ration allowance, which will be increased to NPR 221.92 from Falgun 1. Similarly, police personnel posted in Jhapa, who were receiving NPR 180.55 per day, will now receive NPR 199.10. The highest ration allowance is provided in Humla district, where the daily amount will rise from NPR 865.65 to NPR 952.36.
The daily rice allocation has been increased from 690 grams to 720 grams, while the nutritional value has risen from 4,030.5 calories to 4,364 calories. With the addition of items such as eggs, meat, and biscuits, Nepal Police personnel will now receive a total of 19 ration items.
According to Nepal Police DIG Abhinarayan Kafle, the ration increase will improve daily nutrition and help address long-standing disparities. Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki described the decision as a significant achievement in terms of justice, equality, and boosting morale.
Under the existing system, ration allowances are provided directly to police personnel, benefiting even those who do not eat at barracks. The inclusion of additional nutritious items is expected to enhance health and work efficiency, especially for police personnel deployed on 24-hour duty.
