The film ‘Gunyu Cholo: The Dress’, starring Nazir Hussen, has been released nationwide from Friday and received a satisfactory turnout in theaters across Nepal.
Directed by Samundra Bhatt, the film portrays the story of a gender minority, specifically a transgender character, with Nazir Hussen playing the lead role of a trans woman.
Alongside Nazir, the film features Sanchita Luintel, Sushil Sitoula, Rajkumar Ghosh, Shishir Rana, Anupam Shrestha, and Vishal Pahari in key roles.
As Nepal’s first full-length trans-focused story, the movie’s international distribution rights have been acquired by Buffalo ATL in the United States.
All post-production work—including editing, color grading, mixing, sound design, and background music—was done abroad in Hollywood style. Renowned Hollywood artist Lisa Gerrard provided vocals, while Marcelo di Franceschi composed the background music. (Lisa Gerrard had previously contributed vocals for the Hollywood film Gladiator 2.)
The film is a joint collaboration between a Nepali production house and a Hollywood film production house.
Investors include Akash Budhathoki and Vee-Vince Janubon, with executive producers Jeffrey J. Wane and Steve Johnston. Anupam Shrestha serves as associate producer.
Cinematography was handled by Alok Shukla, and the film was selected for the prestigious American Picture Film Market.
