Hamor Party Nepal Chair Khagendra Sunar has accused Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa of leading the arson incidents during the Gen-Z protests on September 9 and 10 (Bhadra 23–24), including burning the party office and homes of party leaders.
Speaking to the media after meeting Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane at Nakkhu Prison on Sunday, Sunar claimed that Thapa should be investigated for his role in the violent incidents during the protests.
Sunar said,
“Rabi Lamichhane was framed out of political revenge by Gagan Thapa, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Arzu Rana and others who scripted the plot. During the Gen-Z movement, Gagan Thapa led the burning of the Congress party office and leaders’ houses. He must be investigated. Even those who slapped Arzu Rana were acting on Gagan Thapa’s instructions. They are youths from the Dalit community. They said they slapped her because Gagan told them to, and they even asked to be protected.”
He further alleged that Lamichhane was targeted due to political retaliation jointly orchestrated by the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML.
Sunar said,
“I visited the prison to stand against the political revenge and injustice done to Rabi Lamichhane by Congress and UML. This is political violence and vendetta, and I am here to oppose it.”
He also remarked that Lamichhane is a capable leader needed by the country at this moment and said he is willing to be imprisoned himself if Lamichhane could be released in exchange.
Sunar added that the meeting also included discussions about unity among newly registered political parties and Lamichhane’s views on the matter.
