CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Ram Kumari Jhakri has said she feels no regret as her political journey with the party comes to an end.
Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Jhakri said she is “in a way happy” that her association with the party has concluded. She admitted that although she had realized long ago that the party was heading in the wrong direction, she stayed due to a sense of responsibility and hope for reform.
“We knew long ago that this journey was blocked, that it was a wrong path, but we had some responsibilities to try to correct it. That’s why we couldn’t end it earlier. But today, the journey has ended — and we are, in a sense, happy about it,” she said.
Jhakri stated that she had joined the formation of the Unified Socialist Party with the belief that it would move forward as a reformist campaign, but that belief has now faded. She declared that the journey with the Socialist Party has ended along with its dissolution, and announced that her new party will be officially declared at 1 PM today.
She further remarked that the Unified Socialist Party was born at a time when internal democracy within political parties was shrinking, and although there was public trust at that time, circumstances eventually led to the party’s dissolution.
