The hearing in a corruption case related to the land misappropriation involving Patanjali Yogpeeth and its associated Ayurvedic company in Nepal has been postponed.
The case includes former Prime Minister and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal as one of the accused. The hearing was scheduled before a joint bench of judges Narayan Prasad Paudel and Umesh Koirala. However, it was deferred after Nepal’s legal team filed a request for postponement.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed the corruption case on Jestha 22 at the Special Court, naming 93 individuals, including Nepal, as defendants. The anti-corruption body has demanded a penalty and recovery of NPR 185.85 million from Nepal.
According to the CIAA, Nepal, while serving as Prime Minister, allegedly abused his authority to transfer public land for personal and institutional benefit, engaging in corrupt practices.
The आरोप (charge sheet) claims that a Cabinet meeting led by Nepal on Falgun 6, 2066 BS approved land transactions exceeding legal limits for Patanjali. It also alleges that, through a direct order on Magh 18, 2066 BS, he facilitated the sale and exchange of land beyond permitted ceilings.
The case involves the alleged illegal sale and misappropriation of 314 ropani 15 aana 2 paisa 1 daam of land. Authorities have filed charges against 93 individuals, seeking recovery of NPR 185.85 million in total.
