The hearing in the Supreme Cooperative fraud and organized crime case involving Ravi Lamichhane, chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (Raswapa), and former Gorkha Media director Shvilaal Joshi was postponed today. Both are currently in custody.
The case was scheduled before the Tulsipur High Court, Butwal, under Judges Om Prakash Aryal and Tejanarayan Paudel, but Joshi’s legal team requested a postponement, which the court granted.
Earlier, the same High Court bench handling Lamichhane’s case had ordered that both Lamichhane’s and Joshi’s cases, being of similar nature, be heard together.
Lamichhane, seeking to settle his portion of the embezzled amount while remaining in custody, filed a petition with the High Court after the District Court, Rupandehi, had denied his request for release despite depositing his share of the compensation. On Bhadra 9, Lamichhane submitted documents depositing NPR 2.74 crore of his portion.
The charge sheet in the Supreme Cooperative scam lists total collective compensation of NPR 10.99 crore against the defendants, including Lamichhane. Despite depositing part of his share, Lamichhane remains in custody, and the court will hear the case at a later date.
