The hearing on the habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of KP Sharma Oli, chair of CPN-UML, and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak is continuing today at the Supreme Court of Nepal.
The case was taken up on Sunday by a joint bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Sunil Kumar Pokharel. As the hearing could not be concluded, the petition was kept for continuous hearing. Arguments from the petitioners’ lawyers were completed on Sunday, and government attorneys are scheduled to present their arguments today.
The joint bench began the hearing after the defendants had already submitted written responses following earlier show-cause orders issued by separate benches.
Oli and Lekhak were arrested on Chaitra 14 based on the recommendation of an investigation committee formed to probe the protests held on Bhadra 23 and 24.
The habeas corpus petition was filed by Oli’s wife Radhika Shakya and Lekhak’s wife Yashoda Lekhak, demanding their immediate release.
