A hearing has been scheduled again on the writ petition filed by Resham Lal Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party Nepal, challenging the rejection of his election candidacy.
The writ will be heard by a joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Nahakul Subedi and Abdul Aziz Musalman. The case has been listed as the first item on the court’s hearing agenda.
Earlier, on Magh 11, a single bench of Justice Balkrishna Dhakal had ordered the Election Commission to submit a written response to the writ. The court had also summoned both parties for discussion on an interim order.
Subsequently, on Magh 15, a joint bench of Justices Balkrishna Dhakal and Nripadhwaj Niraula directed that files related to the earlier verdict in a culpable homicide case be submitted in accordance with a prior order. After completion of the required procedures and receipt of the case records, today’s hearing was scheduled to consider the interim order.
Chaudhary had filed his nomination from Kailali Constituency No. 1 for the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21. However, the Election Commission rejected his candidacy, prompting him to seek legal recourse at the Supreme Court.
