A hearing has been scheduled today (Wednesday) at the Butwal High Court in the cooperative fraud and organized crime case involving Rastriya Swatantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane and former Gorkha Media operator Chhabilal Joshi.
Last week, the hearing was postponed after lawyers representing Lamichhane filed an application. Ram Bahadur Kunwar, Information Officer at the Butwal High Court, told Ratopati, “The case that was halted last week has been scheduled for a hearing today; we will have to wait and see what decision is made.”
In the Supreme Cooperative fraud case of Butwal, Lamichhane had deposited Rs 2,74,84,000—the amount deemed to be his share—while he was in custody. However, since the total collective liability in the case amounts to Rs 10,99,36,000, the District Court refused to release him. Joshi has also deposited the bail amount corresponding to his share.
Currently, Lamichhane is being held at the Kathmandu prison, while Joshi is in the Bhairahawa prison. The court is yet to decide on their release.
