A supplementary writ petition demanding the restoration of the House of Representatives, bearing the signatures of 68 lawmakers—including 65 from the Nepali Congress and three from other parties—has been scheduled for hearing today.
The supplementary writ was registered at the Supreme Court on Tuesday through an authorized representative. Former Attorney General Khammabahadur Khati was given power of attorney along with the lawmakers’ signatures to file the petition.
Eight Nepali Congress lawmakers had originally filed a writ on Mangsir 23. According to Khati, signatures of an additional 60 lawmakers were later added to the same petition.
Apart from the Nepali Congress, lawmakers from Ashok Rai-led Janata Samajwadi Party, Janamat Party, and one independent lawmaker have also signed the petition. Those who signed include Janata Samajwadi Party lawmaker Hasina Khan, Janamat Party lawmaker Goma Labh Sapkota, and independent lawmaker Yogendra Mandal. They signed the document at the Nepali Congress parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar.
Earlier, 75 lawmakers from the CPN-UML had already submitted a separate petition to the Supreme Court demanding the restoration of the House of Representatives. The UML filed its writ on Mangsir 10 following a decision by its parliamentary party, submitting signatures collectively as an institutional petition.
From the Nepali Congress, Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire, Whip Sushila Thing, and lawmakers Deepak Khadka, Javedda Khatun Jaga, Sita Rana, Asha Bik, Shanti Bik, and Nagina Yadav have already filed writ petitions individually or collectively.
The court will hear the supplementary writ filed by the 68 lawmakers today.
