
The government has decided to form a high-level Transport Management Committee to ensure safe and smooth travel for passengers during the current situation and the festive season, and to immediately address complaints related to transport services.
According to Secretary Keshav Kumar Sharma of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, today’s meeting chaired by him decided to form the committee under the coordination of the Director General of the Department of Transport Management.
The committee will include representatives from the Nepal Police Headquarters, the Highway Safety Division, the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, and the National Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs, among other stakeholders.
The meeting also decided to carry out technical inspections of vehicles leaving the Kathmandu Valley during the festive season and to set up passenger support desks as needed, senior vice president of the National Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs, Saroj Sitoula, informed Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS).
Similarly, the meeting urged the Federation and all stakeholders to ensure proper management so that passengers traveling from Kathmandu Valley during the festivals can conveniently reach their destinations.
Other decisions include verifying and initiating compensation procedures for public vehicles and offices damaged during recent protests, and providing necessary equipment for traffic police through the ministry and the Road Safety Council.
