Hitendra Dev Shakya has been reinstated as the Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
He resumed his responsibilities at the NEA on Wednesday following a mandamus order from the Supreme Court. Earlier, the cabinet had transferred him to the Water and Energy Commission and appointed Manoj Silwal as the NEA Executive Director on 5 Ashoj. The Supreme Court annulled that decision on Monday, declaring it unlawful.
Shakya, who was appointed Executive Director on 11 Chaitra 2081, had been removed from the position shortly after former NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising became the Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation during the GenZ-led political movement.
After taking charge, Shakya said, “I still have three and a half years remaining in my term. During this time, I will work to deliver the best possible results for the Authority. I will continue working in coordination with the government in the coming days.”
