The Nepal Human Rights Organisation has expressed serious concern that the upcoming elections may not be possible on the scheduled date due to the deteriorating law and order situation.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the organisation stated that the government’s failure to address corruption, investigate illegally accumulated wealth, and take action against those responsible has contributed to rising public frustration and instability.
According to the statement, despite long-standing public expectations, the government has not taken meaningful steps to investigate high-ranking administrators, political leaders, judges, and constitutional office-bearers accused of misusing state resources and amassing illicit wealth. This, the organisation says, has led to growing public disappointment and rebellious sentiment, creating conditions that could hinder timely elections and affect peace and security.
The organisation has urged the government to immediately form a high-level judicial commission to investigate illegally acquired assets of officials—past and present—from the bureaucracy, political parties, judiciary, and constitutional bodies. It emphasised that bringing real offenders under legal scrutiny is essential to freeing the nation from corruption and misgovernance.
Furthermore, the organisation has appealed to political parties and Gen-Z representatives not to engage in activities that could trigger conflict, and to cooperate for the protection of the nation and its citizens during this sensitive period.
