The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier selection matches are starting today, with Nepal set to compete against Thailand in their opening game.
The matches will be held at the Tribhuvan University (TU) Cricket Stadium in Kirtipur and the Mulpani Cricket Ground. The tournament features 10 nations, and on the opening day, four matches will be played, with two games scheduled at TU Cricket Stadium and two at the Mulpani ground.
The first two matches of the day, starting at 8 am, will see the Netherlands take on Zimbabwe and Ireland face Papua New Guinea (PNG). The third and fourth matches will feature Bangladesh versus the United States and hosts Nepal against Thailand.
Nepal and Thailand will both begin their World Cup Global Qualifier campaign with this match at the TU Cricket Stadium. Nepal is aiming for a winning start by delivering a strong performance in their opening game.
The Nepali team plans to capitalize on improved batting, fielding, and familiarity with home conditions. Nepali women’s cricket team captain Indu Barma stated that the team is targeting at least a Super Six finish by making effective use of improved batting, better fielding, and home-ground advantage.
Nepal has already played practice matches against the Netherlands, Thailand, and the United States. Captain Barma said these practice games helped the team learn how to compete against strong opponents and turn matches in their favor.
“We have had the opportunity to play against strong teams after 18 years. The practice matches gave us a great learning experience. We are excited and confident,” Barma said.
This tournament is the largest women’s cricket event ever hosted by Nepal.
