India is celebrating its 77th Republic Day today (Monday), marking the day in 1950 when the Indian Constitution came into effect.
The Republic Day celebrations showcase India’s development journey, cultural diversity, and military strength. According to news agency PTI, the parade will feature recently formed military units as well as models of major weapon systems deployed during ‘Operation Sindur’.
European Council President Antonio Luís Santos da Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will attend the celebrations as chief guests. The parade will be led by Indian President Draupadi Murmu and is scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM IST, lasting approximately 90 minutes.
Before the parade, nearly 100 cultural performers will present a program themed “Unity in Diversity,” according to BBC Hindi.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to the nation on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day via social media platform X.
